Five New Year’s resolutions for a healthy home

new years resolutions post

new-years-resolutions-postThis is such a common New Year’s resolution but a lot of the time we’re thinking about diet and exercise. One really easy way to become healthier is to create a healthy home.

Did you know that a lot of furniture, mattresses and textiles are made with a cocktail of petrochemicals and some even leach gases?

Read more about choosing natural, or if your focus for the new year is about healthy sleeping or reducing allergies read our post on natural latex mattresses.

new-years-resolutions-post2Saving is really about spending wisely! So invest in things that stand the test of time: like high-quality textiles that don’t warp or solid timber furniture over veneers.

And where possible, support local makers. Not just because it’s good to invest locally, but because quality and product integrity matters to makers, after all, it’s personal. So not only will a piece have a story and a face to it, after several years you find you need some guidance on repairs or rejuvenation you’re only a call away from the expert hands that made it. new-years-resolutions-post5Stay tuned for the 2017 instalment of Style Series to learn from our expert stylists, designers and makers with special guests from the brands we love.

  • Mikayla Rose from Heartly Design shared the designers guide to choosing rugs with practical advice from Armadillo&Co.
  • The energetic Bek Sheppard tore up the showroom with hands-on styling tips whilst the boys from Bemboka talked about how recognise quality in linen and wool products.
  • Colour expert Wendy Rennie from Haymes and stylist Ruth Welsby painted up our showroom and showed us how to edit the home with colour, light and texture.
  • And our final instalment took us behind the scenes with photographer Amelia Anderson and her beautiful birds with a practical guide to choosing and hanging art from Katherine Wills.

There were lots of surprises, give always and prizes. 2017 is only going to get bigger and better. But what we loved most was a chance to talk to the many familiar faces who visit our store.
